A Call to Action, Let Us Ban Mercury Dental Fillings!

WRITE OR CALL TO BAN MERCURY DENTAL FILLINGS

Updated on October 9, 2007

House of Representatives Bill 2101 Mercury in Dental Filling Disclosure and Prohibition Act. Type in "HR 2101" to see the bill that would immediately stop mercury from being placed in the mouths of children, pregnant and nursing women and would require the disclosure of the dangers of amalgam to consumers. Mercury in dental products would be banned after 2008. Contact your legislator in the House of Representatives and your two US Senators and ask them to support HR 2101.

This legislation has gone through multiple numbers since it was first introduced. The previous version of the bill, HR 4011 was sponsored by Congresswoman Diane Watson (D-Calif) and included these co sponsors. As of December 2006 the previous bill HR 4011 included 16 Co Sponsors

Rep. Dan Burton (R-Ind)
Rep. Michael Michaud of Maine
Rep. Elija Cummings of Maryland
Rep. Major Owens of New York
Rep. Loretta Sanchez of California
Rep. Grace F. Napolitano of California
Rep. Shelley Berkeley of Nevada
Rep. Wm. Lacy Clay of Missouri.
Rep. Tammy Baldwin from Wisconsin
Rep. Robert A. Brady from Pennsylavani
Rep. Ben Chandler from Kentucky
Rep. Peter A. DeFazio from Oregon
Rep. Donald M. Payne from New Jersey
Rep. Jo Ann Davis of Virginia
Rep. Raul M. Grijalva of Arizona
Rep. James P. Moran of Virginia

The following dropped their Co sponsorship of HR4011:

Rep. G.K. Butterfield of North Carolina
Rep. Ed Towns of New York
Rep. Edolphus Towns of New York
Rep. John Lewis from Georgia
Rep. Henry Cuellar of Texas

You people in North Carolina, New York, Georgia and Georgia had better fine out why these men have dropped their sponsorship. Hold their feet to the fire. Call them up and tell them you are poisoned and you live in their state and don't they care when people are being poisoned by mercury dental fillings?

When I inquired about why they dropped out of the co sponsorship of HR4011, I understand that at least one of the Congressmen went home and talked to his pro amalgam dentist, and believed him when the dentist said the fillings were safe.

Maybe if his dentist poisons him he will become a true believer in the cause. There is nothing like good old personal experience to convince you that mercury fillings poison.

One of the former bills was co sponsored by Representative Jo Ann Davis from the 1st District in Virginia. Linda Cifelli and Anne Ferreira, DAMS Coordinators in Virginia, were able to educate Representative Davis about mercury toxicity of amalgam dental fillings BEFORE she was elected to the House of Representatives. Unfortunately, Representative Davis has now passed away. We hope whoever takes her place in Virginia will choose to be on the side of the consumer and not the American Dental Association.

In March of 2006, Linda Cifelli and I went to Washington for a Congressional briefing sponsored by the IAOMT. At that time we talked personally to Congressman James Moran from northern Virginia and he signed right on. It didn't take him long to figure out that a poison is a poison. He is trying to pass legislation to keep mercury from shooting out of coal burning power plant smokestacks along the Potomac River.

Call, write, and visit your House of Representative's office and tell them what mercury fillings are doing to people.

To find your two state senators go to http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm.
There is no bill in the Senate yet.
To find your representative go to http://www.house.gov/writerep/.
If your Congressman in the House of Representative has not signed on, please call his office of write him a letter asking him to sponsor HR2101.

Tonight I listened to my local NBC affliate's news. They showed a pregnant woman seeing her dentist. The health reporter told how important it was to receive dental care while one was pregnant. They told how that gingivitis and periodontal disease was not good for the baby. The dentist was emphasizing the fact that dentists need to look at a patient's oral health as an indication of their overall health. What was featured on this news spot was good, but what was left out was dangerous to leave out.

I shuttered to think that a pregnant woman might decide, "Oh, I need to take care of my teeth now. I am pregnant" and let a dentist replace some mercury dental fillings. Of course the local news did not warn of the dangers of the baby being exposed to mercury while a woman is pregnant. The mercury can pass right through the plancenta into the baby's brain. But you might say, "Oh, but the dentist would know better than to drill out mercury while a woman is pregnant!"

Well a dentist in Texas must not have known about the dangers. There was a lawsuit in TX where the attorney Shawn Khorammi was suing a Texas dentist because he exposed a pregnant woman to mercury vapor. The baby is autistic. I don't know what happened to that suit because the link below does not work now.
http://www.khorrami.com/Amalgam%20Web/Amalgam/Texas.htm.

So if you are deciding whether or not you will take the time to write to your two Senators and your Representative, won't you please do it now? How many women would know it COULD be dangerous to go to the dentist while pregnant? The local news surely isn't telling her! The obstetrician probably isn't either.

Dr. Russell Blaylock, a neurosurgeon in a 700 Club Interview said that if you are in a dentist's office where he is drilling other people's fillings, "and if you sit in their office and breathe the air and it has high mercury levels, you’re also in danger just from sitting in the office."

Even though I now have my mercury fillings removed, I will hesitate to go to a local dentist's office that drills out mercury and exposes the waiting room to all that vapor. Biological dentists use an isolated room with good ventilation to drill out mercury.

This is the letter I wrote to Congressman Virgil Goode of the 5th district of Virginia.

Dear Honorable Congressman Goode,

I just returned from the Congressional hearings on May 8, 2003 conducted by Congresswoman Diane Watson D-California and Congressman Dan Burton R-Indiana. These hearings were part of the Committee on Government Reform, Subcommittee on Human Rights and Wellness, entitled "Consumer Choice and Implementing Full Disclosure in Dentistry."

Because I was not informed that my silver fillings were 50% mercury and I did not know that most dentists do not take the proper precautions while removing silver amalgam mercury dental fillings, I was mercury poisoned in August 2001. I can not sue under malpractice laws because I can find no lawyer in Roanoke who will take my case because of the way state laws are written. In order to sue under malpractice laws, my dentist must have violated the standards of care as determined by the state dental board. My Roanoke dentist did not violate the standards of care because the normal standards of care as taught by the state dental school and approved by the state dental board is TO EXPOSE PATIENTS TO MERCURY VAPOR!

Much up to date research was presented at these hearings against the use of mercury in dental products. The American Dental Association refuses to take responsibility for this assault against the health of Americans and still insists that amalgams are safe. Congresswoman Diane Watson said "I am appalled at the testimony of the ADA spokesman." There was a spokesman from the World Health Organization testifying at this hearing that amalgam was no longer safe to use, and the ADA spokesman sat right there and continued to say that WHO did not oppose amalgam.

The "Mercury in Dental Fillings Disclosure and Prohibition Act" co-sponsored by Burton and Watson will allow Americans to have informed consent before allowing a dentist to place dental materials in their mouths. What other product today does not have a label on it? Even your dog food is required to show a label. [note from editor. The new number for the bill is 4011.]

This bill would immediately stop dentists from placing amalgam in the mouths of children, pregnant and lactating women. Mercury fillings would be banned by 2008. There are other dental products available today and there is no need for mercury fillings. However only between 21% to 27% of dentists are mercury free. Medicaid and some other health insurances only pay for mercury fillings, so poor children have no choice except to use mercury fillings.

Middle class and rich children have no choice of choosing non mercury fillings either if THEY ARE NOT AWARE that silver fillings are actually mercury. So it is a gamble whether an uninformed person will choose a mercury or non mercury dentist. The patient is buying a "pig in the poke."

Because of persecution by state dental boards, dentists are not even allowed to mention that mercury could be toxic to a person's health. However, because of threats by the ACLU in the states of Oregon, Minnesota and Iowa, dentists are now "ungagged" and are free to discuss mercury with their patients.

Dentists in Virginia are not "ungagged" and when I called my dentist to tell him I thought I was mercury poisoned, he would not tell me the truth. I wandered around Roanoke for two months trying to find medical help. Because of the prayers of friends I was able to find an alternative doctor 2-1/2 hours from Roanoke who is treating me for mercury toxicity. Since much of this treatment is considered alternative medicine, my insurance is not paying for most of it. But I was very blessed to find medical help in two months' time. Some people take years to figure out that they are mercury poisoned because traditional doctors do no know how to test for it, and do not know how to diagnose the symptoms of mercury poisoning from dental fillings.

I have a website at www.mercurypoisoned.com. Please support HR xxxx. Know that the American Dental Association is trying to cover up their "deeds done in darknes" just like the tobacco industry. Remember when the tobacco industry said that cigarettes did not cause cancer? But at least the cigarettes' package has a warning label on it! Cigarette smokers do have an informed choice!

Ms. Marie Flowers
108 Farmer Lane
Vinton, VA 24179

Dear Ms. Flowers:

Thank you very much for your recent email. I was glad to learn that your were the DAMS Coordinator for Virginia. I appreciated your comments about the harm that can come from silver fillings with mercury. I am very favorably inclined towards H. R. 1680, and will gladly show it every consideration when it comes before the U.S. House of Representatives.

Thank you again for emailing me. In the future, please utilize my Rocky Mount address for mailed correspondence. All mail delievered to my Washington office is often delayed.

With kind regards, I am

Sincerely yours,

Virgil Goode, Jr.
70 East Court Street Suite 215
Rocky Mount, VA 24151

December 2006

I have visited Congressman Goode's office in Washington, and spoken to his aides. I am still corresponding with the local office in Rocky Mount. He actually came to an estate sale I was conducting in Roanoke in 2005 and we talked about mercury. So far he hasn't become a co sponsor of the dental bill, but I am still working on him. He did sponsor legislation proposed by Congressman Dave Weldon, R-FL to ban mercury in vaccines.

I contacted Mr. Goode many times and he kept saying he was favorably inclined to sponsor the bill, but he never has. If you live in his district in Virginia, please contact him and tell him you have also been poisoned by these fillings (if you have been poisoned), and tell him to get on the ball and sponsor this legislation. He needs to know this is not just a freak accident with Marie Flowers, but is happening to many in his district.
